Bail reduced in alleged molestation case
A federal probation officer accused of molesting three children saw his $1 million bail reduced Thursday to $350,000 after his defense attorneys argued earlier that their client is not a flight risk nor a danger to society.
Judge Anthony Anderson made his ruling after attorneys Eric Berg and Katherine Manuel claimed the $1 million bail was excessive for the crimes of which their client is accused.
Joseph Nicholas Gama, 45, of Redding is charged with five counts of felony child molestation and was arrested on a $1 million warrant at his home on Dec. 3.
Berg, who had hoped that his client might be released on his own recognizance or held at a lower bail, maintained in his bail-reduction arguments on Wednesday that Gama has an "exemplary" record of community service, noting that he served as president of a youth soccer league and has no criminal history.
